MummyPages.ie together with the mums and dads of the Republic of Ireland are calling on the Government to take action now and make the MenB vaccine available for free to our children before another child has to suffer unnecessarily. The Meningitis B vaccine has been available since 2013, but only for those who can afford the €140 prescription fee x 2 for children (x 3 for babies who require a booster). Ireland has the highest incidence of Meningitis B in Europe and yet the vaccine has not been added to our infant immunisation schedule, even though it is currently available free to young children in the UK. Meningococcal Group B (MenB) is the killer bacteria which is the leading cause of meningitis and septicaemia, and the BIGGEST cause of infant illness in Ireland. The Government needs to stump up the hefty fees that parents have to pay to get this done privately. The MenB vaccination needs to be made available to all children regardless of age or income. This vaccine could save your child the pain of illness, life-long disability or even death. Meningococcal infections are very serious, causing MENINGITIS, SEPTICAEMIA and even DEATH. We currently immunise all children against MenC, now give them the MenB vaccine.
